Houston, we have a TEENager…
How can it be? Our first "baby" is 13 today...
For some time, I've planned to take the children on a special, solo trip to NYC when each turned the big 13, but I sure didn't expect this first one to come so fast!
While B has been to NYC a handful of times before, except for his first time (when I was verrry pregnant with L), it's always been with his sisters in tow...
Over the years, we've visited a few sites here and there...
Summer 2008 - taking his first subway ride, rubbing the Charging Bull statue for good luck (but not on the popular part where most everyone else touches ~ ha!), visiting the Statue of Liberty from afar, and watching for taxis...
Fall 2010 - grabbing a cupcake at Magnolia Bakery, posing with President Roosevelt and visiting the American Museum of Natural History, while in town for the weekend to hear Aunt E preach...
Spring 2013 - playing in Riverside Park, paying respect at President Ulysses S. Grant's Tomb, lunching at the New York Junior League, touring President Theodore Roosevelt's birthplace, becoming a cab riding pro, exploring Central Park, and night capping at Shake Shack...
Summer 2013 - ferrying over to Staten Island, visiting the Statue of Liberty from afar (again), taking in the view from atop the Little Red Lighthouse under the George Washington Bridge, riding the tram over to Roosevelt Island, exploring under the Queensboro Bridge, meeting Cousin A, enjoying dinner at Ellen's Stardust Diner, and hanging out in Times Square...
Summer 2015 - saying goodbye to the iconic FAO Schwarz store on Fifth Avenue with Cousin A and taking a late night taxi ride...
most of them have been off the beaten path, and he's not really done a lot of the typical "tourist" things in the Big Apple...
So, this afternoon I picked him up from school, and we headed straight for the airport ~ just the two of us!
The stewardesses made him a birthday crown of airplane snacks...
and we landed in NYC just in time...
to finish off his special day (after changing into long pants at the airport!) with frozen hot chocolate (going hand in hand with the frozen temperatures-brrr!) at Serendipity 3...
and made it to our hotel to enjoy a nighttime view of Times Square before calling it a night...
Ready for a full day of FUN tomorrow!
